I booked my CELPIP exam with a little over three weeks to prepare. This series documents what I studied each day, the materials I used, and how my practice scores progressed.
D-22: Booked the Exam
I finally scheduled my exam date.
To get a baseline score, I used the Accelerate Starter tests.
- Reading: 27 / 38
- Listening: 29 / 38
For this first attempt, I did not take notes while answering the listening questions.
At this point, I was still deciding whether to purchase the full Accelerate course or just rely on YouTube videos for preparation.
D-21: Decided to Buy the Full Course
After trying a few YouTube videos, I realized they didn’t quite work for me. The explanations felt scattered, and I wanted something more structured.
For peace of mind, I decided to purchase the full Accelerate course.
Study for the day:
- Accelerate Listening strategies and tips
D-20: Listening Practice
Today I focused on listening practice using the Accelerate tests.
Listening Test Scores
- Test 1: 35 / 39
- Test 2: 34 / 39
This time, I took notes while listening, which helped me keep track of key details.
Test 2 felt easier because it was already included in the Accelerate Starter, so I had some familiarity with the audio and questions.
D-19: Low-Energy Day
After work, I fell asleep and didn’t wake up until past 10 PM.
Because of that, I only managed to complete half of the Accelerate Reading strategies and tips.
Not my most productive study day, but still some progress.
D-18: Reading Practice
I finished the Reading strategies and tips, then completed two reading practice tests.
Reading Test Scores
- Test 1: 32 / 38
- Test 2: 35 / 38
Similar to the listening section earlier, Test 2 was familiar because it was also part of the Accelerate Starter package.
I also started reviewing the Writing section of the course.
Interestingly, Accelerate now uses a hybrid scoring system combining AI and human grading. When I took the CELPIP in 2024, AI scoring wasn’t part of their system yet.
Study completed:
- Writing strategies and tips – Task 1
D-17: Writing Task 2
I watched the lesson for Writing Task 2, but I didn’t complete the practice question myself. I wasn’t feeling well, so I decided to just focus on understanding the strategy video instead.
